Nancy Jean Atkinson spends every day after school with an elderly neighbor, Ida Wilson.  Her mother is unable to care for her because she is caught in a whirlpool of grief as a result of a tragic accident.  Set in late 1963 in west Texas Nancy Jean, her father, Frank and mother Peggy try to navigate the challenges of loss and are making progress when the unexpected assassination of John F. Kennedy complicates an already difficult moment in their lives.
